Breaking: Nigeria records nationwide power outage after system collapse
Nigerians experienced a nationwide power outage on Sunday after a system collapse, the first this year.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) in a notice to its customers on Sunday confirmed that the system collapse occurred “at 11:21 hours today, February 4, 2024, which has led to a nationwide power outage.”
This came after electricity supply dropped in parts of the country over problems relating to gas supply to electricity generation companies.
In 2023, Nigerians experienced at least three nationwide blackouts in the last quarter of the year.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, two days ago begged Nigerians to be patient with the government over challenges being faced in the power sector.
Adelabu expressed concerns over the poor electricity supply situation in the country.
He advocated that Nigeria should migrate to a full cost-reflective tariff regime as the Federal Government was finding it difficult to pay for subsidies owed to the market.
