Lagos Resident Accuses Armed Policemen of Forcing ₦200,000 Transfer at Gunpoint

Lagos Resident Accuses Armed Policemen of Forcing ₦200,000 Transfer at Gunpoint

A Lagos resident, identified as Aare Feyisayo, has accused three armed officers of the Lagos State Police Command of hijacking his vehicle and forcing him to transfer ₦200,000 at gunpoint during an incident along the Cele Expressway in Lagos State.

The allegation, shared in a post on X by @treatpworld, claims the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at about 5:55 a.m. while the victim was on his way to work. He said officers intercepted his vehicle at Ajao Junction using an unregistered commercial bus (popularly called “Korope”), blocked his car, and forcibly took control of the situation.

According to Feyisayo, the officers allegedly forced his colleague out of the vehicle, seized his car key, and pushed him into the back seat before three armed men—one reportedly masked—entered his car and drove off. He claimed the officers headed towards Mile 2 via NAHCO Bridge before stopping at Cele Expressway, where the alleged extortion took place.

The victim further alleged that the officers compelled him to transfer ₦200,000 into a First Bank account provided by them, insisting the transaction was done under gunpoint at about 6:29 a.m. He added that once the transfer was confirmed, the officers reportedly exited his vehicle and fled the scene in their unmarked bus.

Feyisayo said he later reported the incident at a police station and presented evidence, including the account details used for the transaction and a picture of the alleged team leader. However, he claimed that he had not received any feedback or update on the case since filing the complaint.

The allegations have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a transparent investigation and accountability if the claims are verified.

Reacting to the development, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the matter would be investigated, noting that updates would be communicated after review.

In a related response online, the Nigeria Police Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, directed the Police Complaint Response Unit to look into the allegation, signalling that internal investigation processes had been activated.

The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly stated that it does not tolerate extortion or abuse of power by officers and encourages victims of misconduct to report cases through official channels for disciplinary action.

Authorities say investigations into the latest allegation are ongoing, while public attention continues to grow around the incident.

Army Neutralises Terrorists, Foils Attacks in Nationwide Operations

The Nigerian Army says troops have recorded fresh operational successes across multiple theatres of operation in the last 24 hours, including the neutralisation of several terrorists, disruption of logistics networks, and arrests of suspects linked to criminal and insurgent activities. The update was contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, detailing ongoing counter-terrorism and internal security operations nationwide.

In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded significant breakthroughs against insurgents in Borno State. Soldiers encountered terrorist logistics suppliers along the Agapalwa–Chinene axis in Gwoza Local Government Area, forcing them to flee and abandon items including a motorcycle and food supplies. Acting on intelligence in Gallari, Konduga LGA, troops also used aerial surveillance to discover two gun trucks concealed under trees, which were subsequently destroyed or rendered inoperative.

In further operations, troops destroyed suspected terrorist life-support structures at Gakara high ground and Ndova village, a move aimed at weakening insurgent operational capabilities. The report also confirmed that troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade neutralised one terrorist during an ambush operation in Dipchari, Bama LGA, with follow-up clearance operations still ongoing in surrounding areas.

READ ALSO:

In the North-West, troops under Operation Fansan Yamma successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attackers reportedly arrived with gun trucks, two of which were destroyed during the confrontation, although they managed to escape with an RPG tube. The assault also led to the burning and looting of parts of the military camp and some shops within the community before troops stabilised the situation.

Under Operation Mesa, troops intercepted 76 suspected individuals in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, who were allegedly linked to a questionable recruitment scheme connected to foreign business interests. Preliminary investigations suggest the operation may be fraudulent, and the suspects are currently in custody for further interrogation and profiling as authorities work to determine the full extent of the network.

In a separate operation, troops arrested a suspected terrorist along the Lokoja–Abuja highway following credible intelligence reports. Security sources said investigations are ongoing to establish his links and possible involvement in broader criminal activities along the corridor.

In Plateau State, troops recovered a locally fabricated rifle and ammunition during ongoing operations following an earlier attack in Mangu Local Government Area that claimed the life of a security personnel. Clearance and search operations are still ongoing in the area to prevent further attacks and track fleeing suspects.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustained nationwide operations aimed at degrading terrorist and criminal networks, restoring peace, and protecting civilians. Authorities also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing missions across the country.
