Breaking: Oyo deputy governor Olaniyan defects to APC

Deputy Governor of Oyo State Rauf Olaniyan has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

This is coming few days after Governor Seyi Makinde dropped him from the 2023 governorship reelection campaign as he named Bayo Lawal his running mate.

There has been a frosty relationship between the governor and Olaniyan, fuelling rumours that the deputy governor was planning to quit the PDP.

Olaniyan announced his movement to the APC while speaking with journalists in his private office at the Ojoo area of Ibadan.

It was not immediately clear whether he would still remain in the PDP government for the rest of the Seyi Makinde’s first term.

It was further learned that Olaniyan has been sidelined by the governor and has not been relevant in the scheme of things in the state.
