BREAKING: PDP chairman gunned down in Imo

Gunmen, on Thursday night, shot dead the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered on Friday that the deceased, Smith Anyanwu was shot by unknown gunmen at his shop (Villa Park extension).

A community source, who pleaded anonymity, said, “The PDP ward chairman was shot around 8:59 pm by gunmen who gained access into his residence which doubled as his business premises on Thursday

“The gunmen were said to have rode on a motorbike to the house of the PDP chairman. On arrival, they met his wife and asked her for her husband.

“As soon as they sighted and identified him, they fired several shots at him and left only when they confirmed he had taken his last breath.

“The development has brought an uneasy calm within the fold of the PDP in the state. The slain party chairman was vibrant. Nobody knew why he was killed.”

When contacted, the Director General of New Media, PDP in the State, Lancelot Obiaku, confirmed the killing

All efforts made to reach the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, proved abortive as he did not take his calls nor respond to the message sent to him.
