The Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, has died at the age of 88, marking the end of one of the longest and most influential traditional reigns in Lagos State.
The highly respected monarch reportedly passed away on Monday after an age-related illness, though official details surrounding his death remained sketchy as of press time.
A prominent political leader in Badagry, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to lack of authorisation, confirmed the monarch’s death to this reporter. Efforts to obtain confirmation from the royal family proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages to Prince Jide Akran, a known member of the family, were not returned.
