BREAKING: Tension as fire guts Lagos Airport building

Passengers and staff were left terrified following a fire breakout at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Reports reaching newstrends at the time revealed that the inferno started in some parts of the number one gateway airport while staff were going about their daily routine with passengers on standby.

While officials are still investigating the incident, it was gathered the inferno erupted from a faulty cable on the Tarmac.

It has been alleged that the fire gutted a section of the administrative office of FAAN yesterday night.

“All passengers and staff were asked to evacuate the building while the Lagos State Fire service was on hand to complement that of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN),” Tribune quoted a source as saying.

Police arrest four ex-convicts for robbery in Niger

Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested four ex-convicts after they conspired and robbed a Minna residence of valuables worth millions of naira.

The suspects, Yahaya Mohammed, Ayuba Simon, Menasse Makama and Nuhu Azuka; confessed to their crimes during interrogation.

The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun made this known on Friday in a statement in which he said the suspects were arrested following a complaint received from a concerned resident.

“On 15/4/2024 at about 0250hrs, we received a direct complaint from the Brighter area of Minna, that some suspected armed robbers invaded a residence within the area, robbed the victim and carted away one Honda Odyssey vehicle and other valuables.

“On receipt of the complaint, police operatives attached to Crack Squad of the Command swung into action. With the aid of technical intelligence and information received from the community, the notorious suspects were arrested;

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and other previous thuggery and armed robberies, in which they had previously served a jail term,” the statement read.

Abiodun added that “the confessions of the suspects led to the recovery of the Honda Odyssey vehicle with Reg. No. AG 400 PAK, one POS machine, a Samsung TV, two standing fans and other valuables from them.”

He also disclosed that the suspects would be charged in court as soon as investigations were concluded.

EFCC nabs 20 suspected internet fraudsters in Sapele

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday May 3, 2024 arrested 20 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Sapele, Delta State.

A terse post on the anti-graft commission Facebook page, said the suspects were arrested following actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in computer- related fraud.

Items recovered from them include 12 exotic cars, laptops and phones.

“The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the post added.

40 AK-47 rifles recovered from mastermind of Kaduna-Abuja train attack

The Nigeria Police Force has revealed that one of the arrested terrorists responsible for the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack, which resulted in the killing and abduction of passengers, was found to be in possession of over 40 AK-47 rifles.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the masterminds behind the March 28, 2022 attack were apprehended for their involvement in terrorism, kidnapping, and culpable homicide.

During a press briefing in Kaduna State on Thursday, Adejobi disclosed that one of the suspects, Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Mandi, was additionally implicated in the 2021 abduction of students from Greenfield University.

Reacting to a photograph of the arrested terrorists posted by the Force spokesperson on his X account, an X user, @emetisuccess said, “These young guys, na them do that kind thing.”

Adejobi who responded to the X user’s expression, noted that one of the terrorists he identified as Auwal Ayuba had more than 40 AK-47 rifles.

“In fact, the one on the left, Auwal Ayuba, has more than 40 Ak 47 in his possession and camp.

“The one at the extreme right, Ibrahim, is a serial kidnapper and terrorist. He kidnapped the students of Green Field Kaduna.

“They were apparently around 18 years, plus, when they attacked the train.”

“They are deadly guys. We will continue to pick them one by one. Any criminal can only run but can’t hide,” he added.
