The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has endorsed his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for second term in office.
Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday.
“Breaking: Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike endorsed his Lagos State, @jidesanwoolu for 2nd term in office. Details later…” he stated.
Wike spoke at the opening of the 22nd National Women’s Conference in Lagos, attended by former Ekiti State governors, Ayodele Fayose, Kayode Fayemi, and other dignitaries.
“If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well and he invites me, I won’t come. For me, if you’re in my party and not doing well and you invite me, you will not see me. But if you’re not in my party, and you’re doing well and you invite me, you’ll see me. That is what I stand for. And I’ll not regret to say I’m in support of you,” the Rivers governor said at the Lagos event.
The Punch reports that the endorsement came despite Wike’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, having a governorship candidate in Lagos, in the person of Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor.
There was a loud ovation when Wike made his way into the conference hall.
The three-day conference, with the theme ‘Spring Forth, Stand Out’ is organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).
Wike and other dignitaries were led to the venue of the event the Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu.
The moment the guests stepped into the hall, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, with her counterparts from Kwara, Ogun states and other women leaders welcomed them with a thunderous standing ovation.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu in her welcome address described Governor Wike as “Pepper them Governor.”
