President Muhammadu Buhari has approved new security measures for the South-East and South-South regions of the country.
Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a series of security council meetings held in the last eleven days and concluded on Tuesday in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He however did not provide details concerning the measures.
There have been a series of attacks on police formations in the two regions in the last two weeks, leading to the killings of a number of cops and torching of divisional police headquarters and stations as well as operational vehicles.
National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd), also said the President had approved a memo he presented on the control of drugs considered as enablers of insecurity.
The NSA said the meeting stressed the need to address the security challenges in the country particularly those that have arisen in the last few months.
