President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated one of his media aides, Lauretta Onochie, as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, representing Delta State.
The President has forwarded her name and three others to the Senate for confirmation.
Other named as INEC commissioners are Prof. Mohammed Sani (Katsina), Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti), and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa).
The letter was read by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.
Onochie was appointed as the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media in 2016. She hails from Anioma, Delta State.
She is largely seen as controversial due to her tweets attacking those opposed to the presidency and government policies.
She is very visible on social media ready to defend the Buhari government.
Onochie, a child behaviour deficiency correctional expert, was also a trained pastor. She attended a Bible college in Calabar where she was ordained a pastor.
