President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari following his passing.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu confirmed that he personally spoke with Mrs Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late leader, to express the nation’s deep sympathies.
As a mark of national respect, President Tinubu has directed that all flags across Nigeria be flown at half-mast. This gesture, he stated, honours the memory and service of Buhari, who steered the country through significant periods in its history.
Additionally, President Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom. Both officials will accompany the body of the late President Buhari back to Nigeria, ensuring a dignified and respectful return for the former leader.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the passing of his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari died today in London at approximately 4:30 pm GMT, following a prolonged illness.
President Tinubu has spoken with Mrs Aisha Buhari, the former President’s widow, and conveyed his deep condolences.
The President has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
Former President Buhari was twice elected as Nigeria’s President in 2015 and 2019. He also served as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
President Tinubu has ordered that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
