Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call all political parties and their supporters to order so as not to encourage activities that can truncate the general elections or affect the outcome.
He was reacting to Monday’s disruption of the PDP rally by suspected hired thugs who stormed Ranches Bees Stadium, Kaduna, venue of the rally.
The thugs who brandished dangerous weapons such as machetes and sticks threw stones at the crowd.
Many people were seen running in different directions for safety.
Some of the thugs were said to have snatched phones belonging to people who came for the event.
Atiku stated, “I have just received emergency reports of attacks on @OfficialPDPNig supporters by thugs sponsored to scuttle the ongoing PDP campaign rally in Kaduna State. This is undemocratic and against the Peace Accord all parties signed up for just a few weeks ago.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to call on all parties, their supporters and members to order and to ensure that campaigns, just as with the elections themselves, are kept free, fair and safe.”
He wondered why some parties and their supporters could break away from the peace pact
Contacted, the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mohammed Jalige, said security operatives had moved in and normalcy restored.
“Our men have chased away the thugs and the people as the place is now calm,” he said
