Catholic priest Fr Alia defeats Ortom favourite to win Benue gov poll

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hyacinth Alia, a Catholic priest, has won the governorship election in Benue State.

Fr Alia floored the preferred candidate of the Governor Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party for the poll, Titus Uba.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Fr Alia as the winner of the election in Benue State having scored 473,933 votes.

Uba of the PDP scored 223,913 votes; Herman Hembe of the Labour Party (LP) got 41,881 votes to come third.

Alia, who was born in 1966, is from Mbangur, Mbadede in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.

He became a famous priest in Nigeria following his miraculous power of healing.

He started serving God at the Cathedral Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Makurdi, in Benue State.
