Chaos in Abuja market as soldiers, traders clash
There was commotion in Banex – an electronics and telecommunications gadgets market, in Abuja on Saturday following a conflict that ensued between soldiers and some traders.
The altercation turned into a large-scale brawl, prompting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force to dispatch intelligence officers to the area, according to SaharaReporters.
Videos circulating on social media platform X on Saturday captured civilians overpowering several soldiers in the ensuing melee at Banex.
Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

A trader, who identified himself as Abdul, told PUNCH on Saturday that the conflict originated from a dispute over the sale of a mobile phone.
“There’s an issue at Banex now. Some soldiers came to complain about a phone, and an argument with the traders led to a fight,” Abdul explained.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Benett Igweh, had deployed the FCT Intelligence Response Team to the market.
“The CP has deployed the Intelligence Response Team to the scene,” Adeh stated.
