Chelsea crushes Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge with Estevao outshining Lamine Yamal
Chelsea secured a commanding 3-0 home victory against 10-man Barcelona in the Champions League, with 18-year-old winger Estevao Willian stealing the spotlight over fellow teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
The hosts opened the scoring through an own goal by Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, before captain Ronald Araujo was sent off for a second yellow card just before halftime, reducing Barcelona to ten men. Replacement Liam Delap completed the scoring, netting his first goal of the season after an 11-game drought.
However, it was Estevao who captured the headlines, producing a stunning solo effort to score Chelsea’s second goal. The Brazil international breezed past Pau Cubarsi, resisted pressure from Alejandro Balde, and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Joan Garcia, outshining Yamal, who was substituted in the 80th minute to jeers from the home crowd. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca later substituted Estevao to a standing ovation.

Chelsea’s early lead came from a clever short-corner routine, involving Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marc Cucurella, culminating in the own goal by Kounde. Enzo Fernandez had two set-piece goals disallowed for offside, while Reece James and Neto tested Barcelona’s defense with long-range efforts.
Barcelona’s best first-half opportunity fell to former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres, who shot wide, and Marcus Rashford, coming on at halftime, could not halt Chelsea’s momentum. Delap added the third goal after Fernandez broke the offside trap and assisted.
With the victory, Chelsea moves into the top eight of the 36-team Champions League league phase, potentially avoiding an extra playoff round in February if they maintain their standing over the remaining three matches.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick downplayed the defeat, citing absences including Pedri and players returning from injury, while praising the team’s positives despite mistakes under pressure.
The new Champions League format still gives Barcelona a path to qualify directly with favorable upcoming fixtures: home matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Copenhagen, and an away tie at Slavia Prague.
