China has pledged $200,000 in humanitarian aid to the families of students killed in a missile strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls’ School in Minab, southern Iran, during the early stages of the ongoing Middle East conflict. The funds will be channeled through the Red Cross Society of China to the Iranian Red Crescent Society to provide condolences and compensation to victims’ families.

The deadly attack, which occurred on February 28, 2026, claimed the lives of at least 168 children and left many others injured. Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the strike, although Israel denied involvement and the U.S. has launched an investigation into a potential targeting error involving a Tomahawk missile.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun condemned the incident, describing it as an “indiscriminate” attack and a severe violation of international humanitarian law. He added, “Attacks on schools and children constitute a severe violation of international humanitarian law and breach the bottom line of human conscience and morality.” Beijing affirmed it is prepared to continue supporting the Iranian people during this humanitarian crisis.

The incident has prompted international outcry, with the United Nations and human rights experts calling for a transparent investigation into potential violations of international law. Funerals for the victims were held in Minab, with heart-wrenching images of mass mourning shared widely by Iranian media.

The donation marks a significant step by China to offer humanitarian relief while condemning attacks on civilian targets, particularly children, and underscores global concern over the escalation of the Middle East conflict.
