Christmas: KAI Corps Marshal Vows Tight Environmental Surveillance Across Lagos
As Christians across the world prepare to celebrate Christmas, the Corps Marshal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), has assured Lagos residents of heightened environmental monitoring throughout the yuletide period.
Cole stated this in a statement released on Wednesday by the Head of the Public Affairs and Advocacy Unit of the agency, Ajayi Lukman, stressing that KAI operatives would remain on duty during the holidays to ensure a clean and orderly environment across the state.
He noted that while the Christmas season is a time for celebration, socialising, and relaxation, residents must not abandon responsible environmental practices.

He urged Lagosians to adopt environmentally friendly habits, including proper refuse disposal, the use of public toilets, improved sanitation within residential and commercial buildings, and the correct use of pedestrian bridges.
According to the Corps Marshal, KAI officers deployed across the state will conduct daily surveillance to check environmental infractions, warning that violators of the state’s sanitation and environmental laws would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
Cole also issued a stern warning to individuals engaged in open defecation and urination, describing such acts as health hazards that degrade air quality and the general environment. He cautioned that offenders would face the full weight of the law when apprehended.
He further advised traders to desist from displaying goods on the roads, lay-bys, setbacks, gutter slabs, kerbs, medians and road verges, noting that such practice not only violate environmental regulations but also endanger lives.
The KAI boss also appealed to residents travelling during the festive period to prioritise safety by using pedestrian bridges when crossing highways before, during and after the Christmas celebrations.
