Communal clash: Nigerian army neutralises four militants, recovers weapons in Taraba
Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised four armed militia members and recovered weapons during a rapid and coordinated operation aimed at quelling renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, spokesperson for 6 Brigade, said the intervention followed credible intelligence of escalating land disputes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities. The clashes had led to the burning of houses and destruction of property.
“Upon reaching the area, the troops came under fire from armed assailants emerging from the Fadama axis,” Muhammad said. “A brief but intense exchange ensued, during which four attackers were neutralised.”
Following the operation, the troops recovered three Dane guns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two motorcycles. In a related development, one Nigeria Police Force (NPF) personnel found operating alongside the militia was arrested and is currently undergoing investigation to determine his level of involvement.
