There was confusion in Port Harcourt on Thursday as twin explosions suspected to be dynamites occurred at the state’s secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
It was gathered that the dynamites were detonated in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) parked in front of the secretariat located along Aba Road.
The explosions occurred at about 3pm on Thursday during the councilorship primaries of the party.
Scores of party faithful had gathered at the party secretariat for the conduct of primaries ahead of the April 17, 2021 local government election in the state.
The incident caused commotion for residents of the area and motorists plying the ever-busy Port Harcourt-Aba Road as several vehicles were forced to make a U-turn in the middle of the road.
Although the Rivers State Police Command and the PDP are yet to issue official statements on the incident, it was gathered that some party loyalists who felt aggrieved about the outcome of the exercise might have been behind the attack.
