Abuja counter-protesters insist Nnamdi Kanu’s trial must continue
A group of demonstrators staged a peaceful counter-protest in Abuja on Monday, voicing opposition to renewed demands for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Gathering near the Labour House bridge in the city center, the protesters—clad in matching shirts and waving Nigerian flags—carried placards bearing messages such as “No Pressure to the Rule of Law.” They emphasized the need for Nigeria’s judicial process to proceed without political interference.
Security personnel maintained order by erecting barricades around the protest site. Eyewitnesses reported that at least three buses transported participants to the venue. The rally concluded without incident.

The counter-demonstration occurred just hours after security forces dispersed a #FreeNnamdiKanuNow rally led by activist Omoyele Sowore near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel. Teargas was deployed to break up the gathering, and Sowore alleged that live ammunition was fired at protesters.
