Dangote not owner of truck in Enugu crash – Police report
The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that the truck involved in last week’s tragic accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway is not owned by Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), but by Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.
In a statement released by the Command, the police disclosed that two separate accidents occurred on September 3, 2025, along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis of the expressway, resulting in 10 deaths and 10 injuries.
The first crash, which happened around 9am, involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and branded with the name Visco Investment Global, along with a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus.
According to police, the collision triggered a fire that engulfed both the truck cab and the Corolla. All five occupants of the Corolla were killed, and one passenger in the mini bus also died at the scene.
Later that day, around 3pm, a second accident occurred involving a Sino truck owned by Global Investment and a tricycle. The truck, also transporting cement, reportedly rammed into the tricycle, killing all four of its occupants.
A total of 10 people injured in both crashes are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Police and Dangote Respond
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described both crashes as “avoidable” and ordered a comprehensive investigation.
He also urged drivers to prioritize road safety, especially during the high-risk Ember Months.
In the wake of public speculation linking the incident to Dangote Industries, the company released a statement distancing itself from the crash.
“Investigations have confirmed that the truck involved is owned by Visco Investment Global Limited,” the statement said.
“We are engaging relevant authorities to determine why the truck bore our branding without authorisation.”
Dangote Warns Against Misinformation
The Dangote Group expressed concern over the “growing spread of misinformation” connecting the company to tragic incidents without proper evidence.
“We urge the public and media to avoid sharing unverified claims,” the company warned.
“We strongly condemn the unauthorised use of our brand identity and will take all necessary steps to prevent such misuse.”
Dangote Industries also reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement and upholding its values of corporate responsibility, public safety, and integrity.
