Dangote to give medical care, compensation to graduate hit by its truck
Dangote Cement Plc has assured full medical care and compensation for Mrs. Ruth Otabor, who lost a leg after being hit by one of its trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said its senior officials and insurance team promptly visited the accident scene, met with police officers, and later visited the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
“Following the recent road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of our trucks, which sadly resulted in injury to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, together with our Insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and visited the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.

“This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.
“Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery,” the statement read.
The accident left the victim identified as Otanor Ruth Bodom, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic with one leg amputated, while doctors warned her other leg may also require amputation.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed that the truck driver, allegedly underage and unlicensed, has been arraigned in court, where he pleaded guilty to three of the four charges against him. The case was adjourned to August 21.
The motorcycle rider carrying the victim during the crash is also reported to be in critical condition.
