Davido son’s death: Police arrest domestic workers for questioning
The Lagos police command has confirmed the death of three-year-old Ifeanyi, son of music star, Davido.
An online news portal, TheCable, quoted the police command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, as saying some domestic workers in Davido’s home had been arrested are currently being questioned over the death.
He said the workers were being investigated for alleged negligence to ascertain those culpable in the case.
“There’s not much to say. Some domestic staff were brought in for questioning to find out what they know about it. Anybody found culpable or guilty of negligence will stay back and assist in the ongoing investigation,” he said.
Ifeanyi reportedly got drowned in the swimming pool in the Banana Island residence of the artiste Monday evening. He was said to be under water for a very long time before being spotted.
He was said to have been rushed to Evercare Hospital in Lekki where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The couple on Sunday reportedly travelled to Ibadan for a family function and had left Ifeanyi with his minders who could not explain how he entered the pool without being noticed.
Another report said Davido had left for the US and his fiancé, Ifeanyi’s mother, Chioma, travelled to Ibadan, leaving the boyi with a domestic assistant.
Davido proposed to Chioma in September 2019 after the couple put together a low-key introduction ceremony.
They thereafter announced plans to tie the knot but later postponed the wedding.
Their relationship temporarily hit the rocks in March 2021 amid rumours that Davido had an affair with a model.
Davido and Chioma appeared to have reunited in October 2022, hinting that their wedding had been set for 2023.

Five Benin traditional functionaries in Edo State have been suspended from their roles for allegedly engaging in sacrilegious conduct against Benin custom.
The Benin Traditional Council announced their suspension in a statement signed by the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe on Saturday.
The statement said the affected functionaries visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where they falsely claimed to be emissaries of the Oba of Benin and rendered inaccurate and disjointed account of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Benin Traditional Council has been drawn to video clips circulating on social media in which a group of self-serving traditional functionaries from Benin engaged themselves in a sacrilegious show of shame and falsehood against the Benin Custom.

“In the said clip, the individuals who have been identified as Johnbull Igbinosun, Iduhonre (Ihogbe), S.E. Aigbiremwen, Efesieoghoba (Ogbelaka) and two other Ogbelaka functionaries identified as Ogbeide Osagie and Osamudiame Edo were in the presence of the Ooni of Ife, falsely claiming to be emissaries of the Omo N’ObaN’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin.
“These individuals not only declared themselves subjects of the Ooni but also rendered inaccurate and disjointed accounts of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.
“While the BTC does not wish to be drawn to restating the well-known connection between the two thrones of the Oba of Benin and the Ooni of Ife, the general public is urged to disregard the inaccurate accounts rendered by the ill-bred individuals named above.”
The Council further described the conduct of these functionaries as “inappropriate, sacrilegious, and calculated to ridicule traditional history and to bring disrepute to Benin custom.”
It added, “Consequently, on the authority of the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin the Prescribed Authority over Benin Custom, the BTC hereby announces the suspension of the individuals mentioned above from their role as Benin traditional functionaries.
“The general public is advised to refrain from having anything to do with them as traditional functionaries in Benin kingdom throughout their suspension.”

THE retired Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye has recounted how he fought the dreaded Niger Delta militants, the Book Haram terrorists in the North East and the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, insurgents in the South East and survived all of them without a scar.
Speaking during his pullout ceremony at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Adeoye said it was the grace of God that saved him during the dangerous moments.
He said: “It is to the glory of God that with gun shots and bombs, I did not have a scar. Part of what led to my success was that I had served in Anambra State for 10 years earlier under seven Commissioners of Police”.

Adeoye thanked Nigeria for the opportunity offered him to go places while serving in the force. According to him, the trainings he received while serving had prepared him to face retirement.
In his speech, the Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim praised Adeoye for his efforts in helping the state government to fight insecurity in the state.
Soludo’s deputy said: “There is a time to begin and a time to end in everything. We knew today would come. The CP came to Anambra and has played his role meritoriously. He came when Soludo was tackling insecurity and people were in the bush fighting lawful citizens.
“Adeoye came in at the same time with his own style and dedication, sincerity of purpose and doggedness and within a short space, Anambra is now calm. It is not over until it is over and the fight is still sustained.
“If it were in our hands, we will say, let this good man continue because we are happy with his works. But the law says he has to retire.”
He said that in appreciation of his work in the state, a street has been named after him, just as many awards have been lined up for him.

Yahaya Bello: American school returns $720,000 advance tuition fees, gives reasons
The American International School, Abuja, on Saturday, provided additional information and context to clarify the issues around its decision to transfer the school fees paid by former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Contrary to some media reports suggesting that the institution was still in the process of turning over the funds, the statement clarified that it had actually done so, as recently confirmed by the EFCC Chairman.
In a brief statement signed by Head of School, Greg Hughes, the international co-educational institution, which was established in 1993, stated that “our compliance to remit these funds underscores our commitment to upholding institutional integrity and our respect for the national institutions of Nigeria”.

It explained further: “Upon learning that the school fees we accepted in good faith were, in fact, part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, we turned over these funds in compliance with this federal commission’s request.”
The statement did not name Bello directly but the reference to “a family with children enrolled at the school” was clear enough in the light of recent media reports.
Citing the subjudice status of the issue as a result of the ongoing case between the EFCC and Bello, the school averred that “we will refrain from making any further comments at this time.”
