Death toll in Niger tanker explosion rises to 85
A total of 86 people have been confirmed dead in the tanker explosion that occurred at Dikko Junction in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) gave the figure in a statement on Sunday, adding the number of injured persons had risen to 55.
NSEMA Director General, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, said in the statement,“Eighty of the dead were buried in a mass grave on the Dikko Primary Healthcare Centre premises, while five were taken by their relatives for burial in the town, and one died at Dikko Primary Healthcare Centre.”
The mass burial was said to have taken place between 5pm and midnight.
