Delta Senator, Ned Nwoko, finally dumps PDP

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a political entity he has been a part of since its inception in 1999.

In a letter dated January 30, which was submitted to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nwoko explained that his decision was largely due to the deep divisions and irreconcilable factions that have plagued the party.

“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated in the letter.

The senator also expressed concern over the party’s recent internal conflicts, referencing a violent altercation among top party officials that occurred on January 29.

“Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, the top party functionaries degenerated to the lowest levels by physically fighting themselves arising from the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable,” he remarked.

While Nwoko acknowledged the opportunities the PDP provided during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, he pointed out that the current structure of the party in Delta State has obstructed his ability to fulfill his campaign promises.

“Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realising these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he explained.

Despite his departure from the PDP, Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and upholding his promises to them.
“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship,” he added.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations, as well as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, Nwoko emphasized that his decision was made with his constituents’ best interests in mind.

“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he said.

In conclusion, Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years, wishing the party success in its future pursuits.
