Detain Ajaero and face immediate nationwide strike, NLC warns FG
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Federal Government of harassing its leaders with the sudden invitation of its President, Joe Ajaero, over allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, among other charges.
The labour group on Tuesday said it had put its members and affiliates on red alert, threatening a nationwide strike should the Nigeria Police Force detain Ajaero.
This was announced by the Deputy President of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, after an emergency meeting of the group’s National Executive Council on Tuesday.
The NLC said the strike would begin on Tuesday midnight “if anything happens to the president of the congress”.
On Monday, the Nigerian Police Force summoned Ajaero for investigation over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime and others
The police invitation was contained in a letter dated August 19, 2024, and signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team.
Ajaero was ordered to present himself for questioning by 10am today.
The police also warned that a warrant of arrest would be issued should Ajaero fail to comply.
