Doctor arrested for stabbing lover to death in Rivers
Police have arrested a man simply named as ‘Doctor’ for fatally stabbing his lover, Ima, on Okereke Street in Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Sunday night, allegedly due to cheating.
According to reports, Doctor accused his lover of cheating on him, which resulted in an altercation.
A local in the region, who spoke on the condition of anonymity owing to the nature of the incident, told reporters on Monday that the disagreement escalated to the point that Doctor reached for a knife and stabbed the woman, who bled to death.
He said, “There was a crowd in the compound because of what happened. So, the caretaker of the compound quickly rushed to the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2, Diobu, to make a formal complaint on the matter, and the man was arrested.”

Meanwhile, our correspondent noticed a large crowd of sympathisers and bystanders gathered outside the Azikiwe Police Division on Monday morning as the lady’s corpse was transported to the station.
Our witness noted that the lady’s corpse was then removed to an undisclosed mortuary by police, just a few minutes after arriving at the station.
When contacted, Grace Iringe Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence and the arrest of the culprit.
Iringe-Koko added, “As we speak, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a discreet probe.”
