ICYMI: Don’t leave politics to criminals, varsity VC Imumolen warns Nigerians

Vice Chancellor of Global Wealth University, Togo, Prof Christopher Imumolen, has urged reputable Nigerians to participate actively in national politics so as not to allow criminal elements to completely hijack power and destroy the nation.

Imumolen, who is also president of Joint Professional Training Support International, said the problem with Nigeria was bad leadership and urged those genuinely interested in the progress of the country not distance themselves from politics.

He spoke in Lagos on Saturday during a a development practitioners mini summit titled, ‘Nigeria of our dream, your responsibility, my responsibility’, put together by Timeswatch News, which also honoured the university VC with Nigeria’s Statesmanship Integrity and Productivity Award.

Imumolen noted that Nigerians required mental transformation to be able to play their expected role effectively and turn things around in nation’s political system.

He said, “The problem with Nigeria is not you and I but leadership. If you shy away from politics, criminals will lead you. The major thing we need now is mental transformation of every Nigerian. Nigerians need to be mentally stable. For us to have a good nation, all of us must be involved in the political system.”

He expressed joy that he made it a point of duty to honour the organisers who were all his former students.

“I see this award as a pat on the back but we can always do more,” he said.

Editor of Timeswatch, Mr Emeagi Williams, said the award was meant to promote value, productivity and integrity towards the development of Nigeria.

He said the selection committee took diligent steps to find Prof Imumolen and a few other individuals who had become role models and shining examples in their respective domains.

Emeagi said, “These individuals have shown sheer patriotism, forthrightness, diligence and statesmanship, despite the myriad of socio-economic bottlenecks and negative influences in the national atmosphere.

“So this diadem of glory goes to a very few of you due to your spirit of industry, creativity, positive mindedness, exemplary lifestyles that set trend for decency, uprightness and dedication, the reason Timeswatch and the Grandour International Communication Ventures will continue to recognise you as nation builders.”

He urged the awardees to continue to be trailblazers in their various professionals or callings, so as to encourage the present and future Nigerians to eschew negative lifestyles.

Responding Imumolen thanked the organisers of the event, noting that the award was a call to do more for humanity.

Other awardees at the event are Ekpendu Ogugua Lizzie, Officer-in-Charge, Female Corrections, Kirikiri; Bishop (Dr) Priscilla Otuya, President, Mothers of the Nation and Convener, New Nigeria Leadership Forum; Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu, Founder, Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation; Eze Ephraim Nnaemeka, a UNRS ambassador; Oba Barry Abejide Orishadaun, Oba Aala Worldwide; Anthony Abakporo, Convener, United Breeds Foundation.
