Dozens Killed In ISWAP, B/Haram Rival Clash In Borno

Another fierce rival battle broke out between late Abubakar Shekau Boko Haram faction and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Thursday that led to the killing of a commander simply identified as “Kundu” and dozens of fighters.

The fight happened between Dikwa and Bama local government areas.

A security source said that Kundu and his team were on a robbery mission when the ISWAP intercepted them on six motorcycles, each conveying three fighters.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and a counter insurgency in Lake Chad confirmed the fight.

He said, “A heavy fight ensued between the terrorists resulting to dozens of casualties on the side of the Boko Haram terrorists, while few ISWAP terrorists were wounded.

“The Boko Haram terrorists took to their heels leaving their motorcycles to the ISWAP terrorists.”

In another incident, Nigerian troops struck the enclaves of ISWAP in multiple operations, killing scores of terrorists including three commanders in the Lake Chad Basin.

It was learnt that military jets Super Tucano in well coordinated by the air component of Operations Hadin Kai destroyed three camps in the northern part of the Borno State.

It was gathered that the strikes coordinated by the Air Task Force (ATF), Operation Hadin Kai, targeting the terrorists’ hideouts in Rino, Jibularam and Kangarwa in Marte and Kukawa local government areas was Launched in the early hours of September 14.

A top military officer told our correspondent that many fighters were killed during multiple airstrikes in Lake Chad between Tuesday and Thursday.

Makama, who also confirmed the operations, said that the first damaging air interdiction targeted a hideout of the terrorist and a training camp in Rinu, killing an unspecified number of the fighters.

Sources said that ATF conducted another bombing raid in Jibularam which resulted in the killing of three commanders of the ISWAP and many other fighters.

A source gave the names of the commanders as Muhammed Balge, a chief prosecutor; Malam Chiroma, his second in command; and Amir Bashir, a.k.a Iblis, who was a sniper and the militants’ marksman.

“In another feat, which followed a credible and actionable intelligence obtained by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai, the troops neutralized many terrorists moving in two vehicles in the axis of Kangarwa in Kukawa LGA.

“On receipt of the distress call, NAF aircraft immediately scrambled to the location where they intercepted and neutralised several terrorists. Troops’ deployment around the area revealed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties from the airstrikes,” the military source said.

Police arrest grandma for locking up three infants in room

Men of the Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday rescued three infants, who were locked up in a room by their grandmother in the Agodo-Egbe, Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the grandmother, identified as Fatimo Ganiyu, had been arrested.

The reason for the grandmother’s action was undisclosed, but the children: a girl and two boys between two and four years old, looked malnourished and were said to be wearing only diapers when rescued.

“At about 4:00 p.m, information was received at Ikotun Division that three children, a girl and two boys aged between two and four years old, were locked up by their grandmother, one Fatimo Ganiyu, around Agodo, Egbe-Ikotun.

”The Divisional Police Officer immediately led a team of anti-crime detectives to the scene and the children were rescued and taken to the station, although they appeared malnourished and unhealthy.

“The suspect was arrested while the infants will be transferred for proper treatment and care. Investigation is ongoing.” the police spokesperson said.

Bandits gun down 23 villagers in Kaduna community

Bandits on Wednesday night attacked Anguwar Danko village under the Kakangi constituency of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna and killed 23 persons.

It was gathered that large number of bandits invaded the community on Wednesday, fired gunshots sporadically, and abducted dozens of residents.

Residents said the bandits operated freely in the community, located about 10 kilometres from Dogon Dawa village in the same LGA.

Yahaya Musa Dan Salio, the representative for Kakangi Ward in the State House of Assembly, confirmed the attack, stating that 23 residents were killed, with five others injured.

He said some abducted villagers managed to escape into the bush during the chaos.

“There were casualties following Wednesday’s invasion in my constituency because so far 23 people were confirmed killed by the bandits. 19 at Anguwar Danko while 4 were killed at Kanawa village. They were buried this morning (Thursday),” he said.

He said cows were also rustled from the community during the attack.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Interim Local Government Chairman of Birnin Gwari LGA, Alhassan Ibrahim Saulawa also confirmed over 20 casualties.

He mentioned that the Interim Chairman, Salisu Isah, visited the community to offer condolences and support to the affected villagers and the injured.

According to him, the exact number of people abducted remains unknown as many are still missing, having fled into the bush during the attack.

The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, promised to provide further details upon reaching out to the area for information when our correspondent contacted him with the update on the casualties following the Wednesday incident.

19-year-old boy in police net for raping girl, 9, in Kwara

In Kwara State, one Jamiu Akande has been apprehended for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The incident happened at the Pakata Area, Ilorin in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

19-year-old Akande was apprehended by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The suspect was said to have started having carnal knowledge of the victim late last year and had been having constant sex with her.

The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Ayoola Michael ASC, confirmed the incident.

He said the suspect, who is a regular visitor to Babareke house in Ipata Oloje, started assaulting her sexually on December 1, 2023.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect frequently visited the victim’s residence under the guise of seeing his friend, thereby gaining access to the victim.

“He lured the victim to an uncompleted building on December 1, 2023, and sexually assaulted her. Subsequently, on April 16, 2024, he sent her to buy bread for him and then led her to a dilapidated building where he subjected her to additional sexual abuse.

“The victim disclosed that the suspect had been sexually assaulting her since December 2023”, the NSCDC said.

He disclosed that on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 20:30hrs, the case was reported to the gender unit of the command by Alhaja Yusuf Mariam Joke, The Director of Child Ministry of Woman Affairs, following a distress call from Babareke House, Ipata Oloje Area in Ilorin.

“Without delay, the command swiftly responded and apprehended the suspect after painstaking efforts by officers of the Command,” he said.

Ayoola said that the suspect had confessed to the crime and would be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for onward prosecution.

The state commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Umar, expressed great dismay at the alarming surge in cases of rape and defilement of minors, stressing that those who commit such awful acts would be punished severely.

He urged parents and guardians to remain watchful and ensure that their children are always near them.
