Drama as lawyers give Gov Akeredolu 14 days ultimatum

Lawyers and concerned residents of Ondo State have given Governor Rotimi Akeredolu a 14-day ultimatum to address the people of the state regarding his medical fitness.

The lawyers are Joshua Sebiotimo, I.I. Bewaji, Myson Nejo, Vincent Adodo, Kehinde Olowe, Abayomi Olahanmi, Michael Ojimba, Oluwaseun J Bawa, Adeyoriju Omowole and Victoria Lipo.

In a letter dated October 20 addressed to the Executive Council of Ondo State, including Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Secretary to the State Government, and the Commissioner for Justice, the lawyers and citizens expressed concerns about the state’s governance being severely impacted due to the Governor’s absence and inability to perform his duties since returning from Germany where he received medical treatment.

The letter emphasized that if the Governor fails to address the residents within the stipulated timeframe, the State Executive Council should declare, in accordance with section 189(1) of the 1999 Constitution, that the Governor is incapacitated and unable to perform his duties.

The lawyers and concerned citizens urged the Governor to hold a press briefing within 14 days to confirm his medical fitness. If he does not comply, they called on the Executive Council to convene a meeting within seven days after the expiration of the 14-day period to fulfill their constitutional duty.

They warned that legal action, including obtaining an Order of Mandamus, would be pursued if the officials fail to discharge their responsibilities under the constitution.
