Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested notorious kidnappers and suppliers of gun to bandits in various parts of the country.
Spokesperson for the DSS Peter Afunanya announced this in a statement.
He said the suspects were arrested in joint operations with other security services in Kogi, Abuja, Adamawa and Plateau states.
In Kogi, Afunaya said in the statement that members of a six-member kidnapping gang were arrested at Gegu Beki, along the Lokoja-Abuja Road.
He listed ttems recovered from them as one pump action rifle; four cartridges; one AK47 empty shell and N11,030.
He added that on 25th March 2023, a 20-year-old suspected notorious kidnapper, Haruna Adamu , as also arrested at Fotta village in Gombi LGA, Adamawa State.
Afunaya also said on 23rd March 2023, one Aminu Ibrahim, a suspected gunrunner was arrested along Kubwa Expressway, Abuja by DSS operatives.
He said Ibrahim was on his way from Nasarawa State to deliver 432 rounds of 7.62 x39mm calibre ammunition concealed in a four-litre gallon of palm oil to a bandit in Niger State.
He said, “The sum of N21,400 was also recovered from the suspect.
”Earlier on 22nd March 2023, Babangida Ibrahim, an arms courier to bandits in Zamfara State was apprehended along Bukuru in the Jos South LGA, Plateau State. Recovered from him were 468 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and N21, 090.
“All the suspects have been taken into custody and will be prosecuted accordingly. Meanwhile, the service and relevant security agencies are carrying out further investigations into related matters in parts of the country.”
