Edo APC threatens to suspend any commissioners not wearing ‘Tinubu cap’
BENIN — The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, has issued a warning to government officials, stating that any Commissioner who fails to comply with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to wear the symbolic ‘Tinubu cap’ to State Executive Council (SEC) meetings risks suspension from the party.
Tenebe, who spoke during a televised interview monitored by Daily Trust, described non-compliance as an act of indiscipline and insubordination, stressing that party loyalty must be reflected in both conduct and appearance.
“This is about discipline and unity,” he said. “If you refuse to wear the cap as the governor has directed, we will suspend you. That is indiscipline and insubordination.”

The directive, which mandates Commissioners to wear the cap associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is part of the APC’s mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tenebe said the party is committed to delivering 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Edo State, and would not tolerate any action that undermines that goal.
“We are doing it because we made a promise that 3.5 million votes are guaranteed. Everybody has keyed into realising that target,” he said.
The move has sparked conversations around political symbolism and party discipline, with observers noting the growing emphasis on visible loyalty within party ranks.
Governor Okpebholo, who assumed office earlier this year, has continued to push for cohesion within his cabinet, urging officials to align with the APC’s national vision and leadership.
