The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Frank Okiye, has been impeached.
Okiye representing Esan North-East Constituency 2, was impeached following a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Henry Okhurobo.
The impeachment letter was signed by nine of the 10 members of the House at the brief sitting on Monday.
A new Speaker was immediately elected, Marcus Onobun, representing Esan West Constituency, was thereafter elected speaker. This followed a motion by the member representing Igueben Constituency, Ephraim Aluebhosele.
The motion was seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, Emmanuel Agbaje.
The Deputy Speaker, Roland Asoro, who presided over the plenary after Okiye’s impeachment, put the motion to a voice vote. And it received the support of all the members at the plenary.
