Edo election: APC claims victory in 13 LGAs, PDP to protest outcome

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed victory in 13 out of the 18 local government areas (LGAs) in the Edo State’s governorship election conducted on Saturday September 21.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the APC of manipulating the results, declaring that it clearly won in 15 LGAs.

It went ahead to allege suppression of votes in three key populous LGAs – Oredo, Egor and Ikpoba/Okha.

There were reports of the uploading of the results in 98 per cent of the polling units.

Security forces barred the agents of political parties and observers from the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin-City, the state capital where the results were being collated.

Director General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council, Hon Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, early Sunday morning said the PDP) would protest the election outcome.

As of Sunday 2am, INEC had uploaded results from 4,435 out of 4,519 polling units in the Edo State poll to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

He said the results were being skewed in favour of the APC and its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

While journalists and some party agents were waiting at the Conference Hall in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office to announce the results, protesters about 20 stormed the entrance gate of INEC.

He also alleged that the leader of the APC in the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and reinstated deputy governor of the state Philip Shaibu were thumb-printing ballot papers to close the gap with which they were leading.

“We will not accept this, we will contest it,” he said when he led the protesters to the venue.
