Edo Man Arrested for Christmas Murder of Friend Returning from Europe
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Amadin William, over the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, who had returned from Europe to celebrate Christmas in Nigeria.
The arrest was confirmed by the police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in Benin City on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on December 22 in Oben community, Edo State, shortly after the deceased hosted a house-warming ceremony for family and friends.

Ikoedem explained that William allegedly lured Osarietinomwan into a nearby bush, where he attacked him with a machete, inflicting severe neck injuries. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
“The suspect, after committing the crime, absconded but was later tracked and arrested in Benin City on December 27,” ASP Ikoedem said.
The killing sparked outrage in the community, prompting some youths to allegedly set the suspect’s house on fire. The police confirmed that two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the arson.
Investigations are ongoing, and the Edo State Police assured that all culprits will be prosecuted according to the law.
