The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released the Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, detained over alleged N1.3bn fraud.
The VON DG was at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on January 29 to honour an invitation by the anti-graft agency regarding a case bordering on alleged conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.
He was reportedly questioned for allegedly embezzling N1.3 billion.
EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, on Saturday confirmed that Okechukwu had been released.
“He was released on Monday,” Uwujaren said, adding that investigations would continue.
TheCable reported that the VON DG had been outspoken about national issues in recent months.
He had asked the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), as well as contributing to the discourse on the electoral bill.
