EFCC Intercepts Wife of Federal High Court Chief Judge With $160,000 Cash
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly intercepted the wife of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, while she was allegedly travelling to Benue State with $160,000 in cash.
According to multiple online reports on Sunday, EFCC operatives stopped the woman during a trip from Abuja to Benue State and discovered the large sum of foreign currency in her possession.
Sources familiar with the development claimed that the anti-graft agency questioned her over the source and intended use of the funds before reportedly escorting her back to Abuja for further clarification.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to issue an official statement confirming the interception or stating whether any formal investigation had been launched regarding the cash.
The reported incident comes amid growing scrutiny surrounding the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. Justice Tsoho is said to be facing questions linked to asset declaration issues reportedly being reviewed by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
While details of the alleged interception remain sketchy, sources indicated that the discovery of the cash during the trip has attracted the attention of investigators, especially given the ongoing concerns about transparency and accountability within public institutions.
Attempts to obtain official comments from both the EFCC and the Federal High Court were unsuccessful as of press time.
Legal analysts say that under Nigerian financial regulations, individuals are not prohibited from carrying cash within the country, but large sums may attract scrutiny from law enforcement agencies, particularly when linked to public officials or ongoing investigations.
Observers note that the development, if confirmed, could further heighten public attention on financial accountability within the judiciary.
More details are expected to emerge as authorities clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported interception.
