#EkitiDecides2026: Fayose Predicts Landslide Victory for Oyebanji

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Saturday expressed confidence that Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious in the ongoing Ekiti governorship election, declaring that the incumbent governor had already secured the mandate of the people.

Fayose made the remarks after casting his vote at St. David’s Primary School in Afao-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, where he praised the conduct of the election and the turnout of voters.

The former governor arrived at the polling unit, which also serves as the ward collation centre, alongside his son, Bolu Fayose, the APC House of Assembly candidate for Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II.

Speaking with journalists shortly after voting, Fayose described the electoral process as peaceful, orderly and significantly improved compared to previous elections.

“So far, so good. There are no incidents, no issues and no disruptions. What we are witnessing closely resembles a credible process. INEC is alert to its responsibilities, and this represents an improvement on previous exercises,” he said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said developments across the state and the mood of the electorate indicated that Governor Biodun Oyebanji was on course for a convincing victory.

“Oyebanji has already won the election if you look at the state of affairs in Ekiti and the body language of the people. I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him,” Fayose stated.

The former governor’s prediction is in line with his consistent support for Oyebanji’s re-election bid. Despite remaining a prominent figure in the PDP, Fayose has repeatedly praised the governor’s leadership style, performance in office and ability to foster political inclusiveness across party lines.

In the months leading to the election, Fayose openly backed Oyebanji’s second-term ambition, arguing that the governor had earned widespread support from residents through his developmental initiatives and governance approach.

Fayose also commended security agencies deployed for the election, noting that their professionalism contributed to the peaceful atmosphere witnessed across polling units.

“They are doing very well. You can see that they have adequate personnel on the ground. They have conducted themselves professionally and have not taken sides in the exercise,” he said.

He urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to accept the outcome of the election and prioritize the continued development of the state.

According to him, once the electoral process is concluded, all stakeholders should unite behind efforts to advance governance, economic growth and infrastructure development in Ekiti.

The Ekiti governorship election is being closely monitored nationwide, with the ruling APC seeking to retain control of the state while opposition parties attempt to unseat the incumbent administration.

However, despite Fayose’s prediction, only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the constitutional authority to declare the official winner after the completion of voting, collation and announcement of results.

As voting continues in parts of the state, attention remains focused on the outcome of the election and whether Oyebanji’s perceived popularity will translate into a decisive victory at the polls.
