President Muhammadu Buhari will soon come up with “something” agreeable to all that will address the breakdown of law and order, wanton killings and destruction of public and private property across the country, its National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, has said.
Monguno spoke with journalists in Abuja after a crucial security council meeting the President presided over in Abuja on Thursday.
The meeting attended by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, the service chiefs, the inspector general of police and other top government officials came two days after widespread violent attacks on #EndSARS protesters in Lekki and other parts of Lagos, Abuja as well as different parts of the country.
Soldiers drafted to stop the protest at the Lekki tollgate have been accused of opening fire on the unarmed youths.
Many deaths have been recorded; private houses and offices of prominent people razed, public buildings including police stations set ablaze across several states despite curfews imposed by the respective state governors.
But emerging from the security council meeting, Monguno said the President had also charged government at all levels to do all that would be necessary to end the riots in the country
He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari has asked governments at all levels to do all that is necessary to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the country,” Monguno stated that the “riots are taking an unwanted dimension that could result into a full anarchy.”
The Secretary to the Government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, the President’s Chief of Staff, Agboola Gambari, were also said to be in attendance.
The President’s aide on new media, Bashir Ahmad, had earlier hinted about the meeting via a tweet on Thursday morning.
