Less than 24 hours after the launch of Soro Soke, an online radio by #EndSARS protesters, the platform’s Twitter account has been suspended.
Twitter was said to have suspended the Soro Soke Twitter account because it violates Twitter rules.
No details have been given yet about those rules that were broken with the creation of the Twitter radio account.
The suspension notice is currently displayed on the radio Twitter account, @Sorosoke247. It simply states “Account Suspended. Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rule.”
Launched on Sunday, the online radio is accessible via https://s4.radio.co/s99d55c85b/listen for programmes and live reports of missing and found #EndSARS protesters, and other updates on the protests across the country.
Music on the need for citizens’ voices to count and reforms, amongst others, has been and still being played on radio after the launch was announced.
Soro Soke, a Yoruba phrase, which means ‘Speak Up,’ has become a slogan for #EndSARS protesters in the past 10 days.
According to the protesters, Soro Soke is also a metaphor for all Nigerians to speak up against bad governance and resist corrupt leaders.
The Twitter handle of the station, @Sorosoke247, states, “24/7 update on all things protest. We are for a better nation powered by value for life and good governance.”
The youth protesting against police brutality had earlier called for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
After the disbandment of the squad, they had articulated and presented a five-point demand to the Presidential Panel on Police Reform.
The demands are the release of all arrested protesters; seeking justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families; they want increased salaries for the police; and the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct.
