Evangelist Arrested Over Alleged Abuse of Minor

An evangelist identified as Favour Ezani has been arrested in Anambra State over allegations of sexually abusing a minor.

The suspect, who is said to be the General Overseer of a Pentecostal church in Nnewi, was apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), a state security outfit. Authorities said the case came to light after the victim, a 16-year-old identified as Precious Okafor, was discovered to be pregnant.

Reports indicate that the teenager had been taken to the cleric by her aunt for what was described as spiritual healing at his residence in Amichi community, Nnewi South Local Government Area. During interrogation, the girl reportedly identified the cleric as responsible for her condition, leading to his arrest.

In a video circulating online, the suspect was said to have admitted to the act and also claimed he attempted to terminate the pregnancy using a mixture of bitter leaf and other substances. He reportedly pleaded for leniency, promising to cover the victim’s medical expenses.

Narrating her experience, the victim alleged that the abuse began shortly after she arrived at the cleric’s residence in November 2025, where she had been sent without her mother’s consent. She said she was subjected to repeated sexual assault under threats.

“He has slept with me countless times inside his church, farm, and residence before the rescue came,” she said, while appealing for medical and financial assistance.

Authorities said the case came to light after the victim’s pregnancy was discovered by her aunt, prompting further questioning that led to the suspect’s arrest. The spokesperson for SASA, Karen James, confirmed that the cleric is currently in police custody.

In a viral video, the suspect reportedly admitted to the offence and also confessed to attempting to terminate the pregnancy using herbal mixtures.
