Ex-Ekiti Governor Fayemi slams Tinubu govt, says Nigerians not happy

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over hunger, poverty, and deteriorating infrastructure in the country.

According to the former governor, Nigerians are not happy with the state of the nation.

Fayemi, speaking in Yoruba during a public event in Ekiti, warned that unless urgent action is taken, Nigerians may withhold their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

“Except we are deceiving ourselves, Nigerians are not happy with the Federal Government — because of hunger and lack of money,” he said in a video clip that surfaced online and was seen by Daily Post.

Fayemi lamented the neglect by the central government, pointing to the suffering of commuters along major roads.

“Anyone coming from Efon Alaaye through Erio will understand the hardship on that road. The same goes for anyone travelling from Omuo Ekiti through Ilasa to Ayedun,” he said.

The former governor revealed that his administration had spent between ₦18 billion and ₦20 billion on one of the federal roads later completed by his successor, Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He, however, criticised the Federal Government’s refusal to refund the state.

“We did the road, and the Federal Government said they didn’t send us, so there was no refund. If they had refunded the money, the governor could have used it for the second phase of the Ado–Iyin–Aramoko road,” he said.

Fayemi’s remarks were made during a public gathering where Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, and lawmaker Tope Longe were also present.

The statement comes just days after Fayemi was noticeably absent from a political rally in Ado-Ekiti, where President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji were jointly endorsed for a second term by party loyalists.
