Ex-IGP Solomon Arase dies at 69 in Abuja hospital
The former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, is dead.
He was 69 years old.
Arase, a former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), died at about 9am on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
His son, Solomon Arase Jnr., announced the passing of his father on behalf of the family.
“The family seeks the understanding and prayers of friends, associates and well-wishers at this difficult moment, as they make necessary arrangements for his obsequious which will be announced in due course,” Arase Jnr. said in a statement.
Born on June 21, 1956, Arase, who joined the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1981 after his bachelor’s degre, retired in June 2016 after serving 35 years.
In March 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari swore in Arase as the PSC chairman.
Before he his appointment as IGP, Arase had led the criminal intelligence and investigations department (FCIID) of the force.
He had also served as commissioner of police for Akwa Ibom State.
