Ex-Imo commissioner hospitalised after 61-day detention for attacking Gov Uzodimma
Former Imo state commissioner Fabian Ihekweme has been hospitalised after spending 61 days in police detention on the order of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
A video uploaded on social media by Sahara Reporters shows Ihekweme lying in a hospital bed and looking frail.
Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, a vocal critic of Governor Uzodimma was arrested on November 27, 2024, at his Abuja residence. He was detained for 61 days without formal charges.
During his detention, Ihekweme was reportedly held in a notorious cell, which may have contributed to his health issues.
After his release, he offered an apology, though the circumstances surrounding this apology remain unclear.

His arrest and subsequent detention have sparked widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and activists, who view the incident as an attack on free speech and a suppression of dissenting voices.
The Nigerian Police have yet to provide an official statement regarding the legality of Ihekweme’s detention.
