Ex-Kano commissioner, five others arrested over N1bn road project fraud
Idris Saleh, former commissioner for works and infrastructure in the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of the state, has been arrested.
The former commissioner, in a report by DailyTrust, was arrested along with five others alleged to be involved in N1 billion fraud.
NewsTrends learnt that the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) ordered the arrest of Saleh and his alleged collaborators.
The N1 billion was reportedly meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainages within the Kano metropolis.
The projects for which the money was allocated were reportedly not executed.
The money for the projects was reportedly withdrawn in three tranches and paid into three companies’ accounts on April 23.
Earlier, Muhuyi Magaji, chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, said the investigation into the alleged fraud against Ganduje would be reopened.
In October 2018, Ganduje was allegedly captured in a video by an online newspaper while receiving and stuffing bundles of dollars into his pocket.
Magaji was sacked by Ganduje.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, reinstated Magaji as the chairman of the commission on June 21.
