Ex-NIMASA Director, Hajia Aisha Jumai Musa is dead

A former Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Hajia Aisha Jumai Musa is dead.

NIMASA sources informed SHIPS & PORTS that the former Director, popularly called A.J. Musa died in Kaduna on Saturday 4th November.

Her death was also announced on the NIMASA staff whatsapp group.

“Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihir Rajiun. In total submission to the will of Allah, the Muslim Ummah of this Agency wishes to announce with heavy hearts the sudden demise of late Hajia Jummai Musa whose death occurred yesterday (4th November, 2023). Late A J Musa was a former Director of Admin and Human Resources. She will be buried later today in Kaduna in sha Allah according to Islamic rites. May Allah Subhanahu wata’ala accept her good deeds and forgive her shortcomings. May Allah Subhanahu wata’ala also grant us the fortitude to bear this great loss and unite us all in Jannatul Firdaus. Amin ya Rabbi,” the announcement read.

A.J. Musa, a 1982 law graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, joined the defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA) in 1996 as Chief Legal Officer. She served as Acting Secretary to the NMA Board of Directors from 1999 – 2000 and as Registrar of Ships for five years from 2005 – 2010. She was Registrar of Ships when the defunct Joint Maritime Labour Industrial Council (JOMALIC) was merged with NMA to form the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in 2006.

In 2011, A.J. Musa was appointed Zonal Coordinator, Central and Western Zonal Offices of NIMASA, a position she held till 2017 when she was promoted to become a Director. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the Director, Planning, Research and Data Management Department and later as the Director, Administration and Human Resources from 2018 – 2020.

She retired from NIMASA as Director of Servicom in May 2020 after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

The deceased served on many Federal Government committees including the Committee on Implementation of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF); Maritime Committee on Stakeholder Interactive Forum and the Ministerial Committee on Affreightment of Crude Oil by Indigenous Shipping Companies, among others.
