After many years of delay, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said he will soon perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Fourth Mainland Bridge.
The governor spoke on Friday at the commissioning of the rehabilitated and reconstructed 2.5 kilometre Oba Sekumade Road as well as the strategic sectional rehabilitation of T. O. S Benson Road in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.
The Fourth Mainland Bridge, a 38km long bridge project of the Lagos State Government, is expected to cost $2.2 billion.
The bridge would pass through Lekki, Langbasa and Baiyeku towns along the shoreline of the Lagos lagoon estuaries, through Igbogbo River Basin and then crossing to Itamaga Area in Ikorodu. It would also cross the Itoikin Road and the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road to connect Isawo inward the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ojodu Berger axis.
Sanwo-Olu also promised to complete ongoing projects in the state so the people could enjoy more dividends of democracy.
Sanwo-Olu thanked the people of the state for their support during the recent elections, adding that the Oba Sekumade Road was conceived by the Federal Government to provide access to the Ikorodu lighter terminal, Ebute Ipakodo, Ikorodu town, Ibese, Igbogbo and other communities within Ikorodu Division.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, said the administration decided to take action due to various complaints from commuters on the condition of the road coupled with the perennial flooding experience caused by inadequate drainage system in the area.
She said the main goal of the projects, with duration of 14 months, was to resolve the perennial flooding issues around Ogolonto, Omologede, Ipakodo and environs as well as promote effective intermodal and integrated system.
Stakeholders including lawmakers and royal fathers in the area thanked the governor for fulfilling his promises to the people of Lagos.
They pleaded for other roads such as Agric-Ishawo Road to be included in roads that would be rehabilitated before the end of his administration.
