Expect three-day sunshine, thunderstorms from Wednesday, says NiMet
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted sunshine and thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across the country.
NiMet’s weather output released on Tuesday in Abuja predicted cloudy skies on Wednesday with intervals of sunshine over the northern region in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano and Kaduna states.
The agency forecast thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina and Taraba state later in the day.
“The North central region is expected to be cloudy with chances of rains over parts of Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory and Kogi during the morning hours.
“Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory in the afternoon and evening hours.
“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the inland cities and coastal belt of the South with chances of rains over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River during the morning hours,” it said.
The agency envisaged rains over parts of Ebonyi, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Edo and Ekiti later in the day.
According to NiMet, cloudy skies with an interval of sunshine are anticipated over the northern region on Thursday with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Kano and Borno during the morning hours.
“The afternoon and evening hours holds prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, Gombe, Kaduna and Sokoto State.
“The North Central region is expected to be cloudy in the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau and Nasarawa in the afternoon and evening hours.
“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the inland and coastal cities of the South with prospects of rains over Cross River state in the morning hours,” it said.
NiMet predicted rains over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom states during the afternoon and evening hours.
The agency anticipated cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over the northern region on Friday with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Borno, Bauchi, Yobe Adamawa and Kebbi in the morning hours.
The agency said thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kano, Adamawa, Katsina, Bauchi, Kebbi, Jigawa and Yobe later in the day.
“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North-Central region with prospects of rains over Kogi, Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa during the morning hours.
“Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, Kogi and Benue during the afternoon and evening hours.
“The inland and the coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy chances of the rain over Akwa Ibom state in the morning hours,” it said.
It envisaged rains over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Rivers, Delta and Cross River later in the day.
According to NiMet, gutters and waterways should be cleared of debris and obstacles to ensure the free flow of water to reduce incidences of erosion and overflow of water beyond its normal limit.
“There are good prospects of intermittent rains over the central states within the period of validity of the forecast and as such flash floods are likely to affect some parts of the region.
“The public is advised to take adequate precautions and Airline operators are also advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

More trouble for Yahaya Bello as immigration places him on watchlist
The Nigeria Immigration Service has ordered the arrest of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaha Bello, if found at any entry/exit point of the country.
The NIS said on Thursday night that Yahaya Bellowas placed on its watchlist after evading arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation of N80 billion fraud.
This notice came a few hours after the EFCC had declared the former governor wanted.
The NIS, in a letter addressed to the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency as well as other formations declared that Bello had been placed on its watch list.
The letter was signed by the Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (Suspect Index), D S Umar, on behalf of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service.
Part of the letter read, “Suffice to mention that the subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja for Conspiracy, Breach of Trust and Money Laundering vide letter Ref: CR: 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/TE/V 1/279 dated 18th April 2024, if seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday declared former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, wanted.
The anti-graft agency said Bello is wanted for alleged offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 billion.
The EFCC called on Nigerians with information as to his whereabout to report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station.

Bello, 48-year old Ebiraman, is a native of Okenne Local Government of Kogi State. His last known address is: 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
