Experts Warn Nigerians on Excessive Telephone Use Amid 5G Deployment

Abuja, NigeriaNigerians and telephone subscribers have been cautioned against excessive use of mobile devices following the rollout of Fifth Generation (5G) technology by telecom companies in the country.

Mr. Bernie Gaksch, Regional Strategist and Marketing Manager for QNET Africa, highlighted that the adoption of 5G networks in Nigeria makes it crucial for subscribers to use their telephones responsibly to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking at the QNET Products presentation at Belanova Hotels, Abuja, on Friday, Gaksch emphasized that children’s usage of mobile phones for school activities, games, and social interactions requires parental supervision to prevent health risks. He noted that telephone radiation, heat, noise, and other emissions could lead to headaches, tiredness, depression, exhaustion, and low energy.

According to Gaksch, there are currently 15.6 billion connected devices worldwide, exposing users to significant health risks, while Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) data shows 173.4 million active telephone subscribers in Nigeria as of September 2025.
