Explosion rocks army barracks in Maiduguri
Panic swept through Maiduguri in the early hours of Thursday as multiple explosions erupted from the Giwa Barracks, jolting residents from their sleep and sending waves of fear across the Borno State capital.
The blasts, which began around 12:05 a.m., were accompanied by loud bangs and red flares lighting up the night sky—believed to have emanated from the barracks’ armoury section. The incident forced many locals to flee their homes in search of safety, unsure of what was unfolding.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that firefighters and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, with sirens blaring and heightened security presence in the area.
A resident, Rakiya Garba, described the situation as terrifying, stating that the explosions continued intermittently, further fueling speculation and fear.
