Fake dollar syndicate exposed in Gombe
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi has confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Usman Kawu, for alleged criminal conspiracy and possession of counterfeit foreign currency.
Police operatives attached to the Lawanti Airport Division apprehended Kawu on Monday around 2:04 p.m. during a routine surveillance operation.
Officers found him with $1,000 in suspected fake United States currency, comprising ten $100 notes. The forged amount is valued at approximately N1.5m.
In addition to the fake dollar bills, officers recovered N10,000 from Kawu.

The cash was reportedly concealed inside his inner shorts and has been collected as part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Abdullahi stated that preliminary findings confirmed the foreign currency to be counterfeit on Wednesday.
“The suspect confessed to being aware of the fake currency and alleged it was handed over to him by an accomplice whose identity is being withheld for operational reasons,” Abdullahi said.
According to the statement, the police have launched efforts to track down the unnamed accomplice and gather further evidence related to the case.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling economic crimes across the state and warned against any attempt to undermine public trust through financial fraud.
“We remain vigilant in safeguarding the financial integrity of our communities and will continue to act swiftly against all forms of economic sabotage,” the statement added.
